Look for at least 8GB of RAM with SSD Storage instead of a hard drive and 8+ hours of battery life. Chromebooks are good options if you are buying one for kids. Windows laptops and MacBooks provide better functionality, but the price differs a lot between them.

Pick a Platform: Mac, Windows or Chrome OS?
This is probably the most difficult thing to answer if someone asks you about your preference because each of them has a good thing about them. We have compiled some basic information on each so you can set your mind;
This one is the oldest and the most flexible operating system. It shows up on a lot of makes by other manufacturers and models in comparison to Chrome OS or Mac OS X. It’s notebooks ranges from under $150 to thousands of dollars. However it offers a wide variety of features ranging from the touch screens to fingerprint readers and dual graphics chips. The latest version of Microsoft’s flagship operating system, Windows 10 offers many improvements over Windows 7 and 8, consisting of the capability to switch between tablet and desktop modes. There is also a revamped Start menu along with the strong Cortana digital assistant. You can easily follow-up questions with Cortana and the updates. Things like searching your email using natural language is a basic thing offered to users and your stylus can be used to scribble anywhere on the screen. It is often relatively cheaper than MAC.
Apple macOS High Sierra
All of the MacBooks are offered with Apple’s latest desktop operating system, macOS High Sierra. In the macro sense, the operating system offers almost everything that Windows 10 does in its functionality however it has a different take on the user interface. This replaces an apps dock at the lower side of the screen where Microsoft’s Start menu and taskbar are. Instead of the Cortana digital assistant, Mac has Siri. If you are a MAC user, you can do transactions with Apple Pay, receive calls or texts from the phones and unlock the laptops with an Apple Watch. But macOS laptop is not made for touch, as MacBooks do not come with a touch screen.
